Colorful Puzzle Pieces
This is a matching set of 2 stained glass painted globes. They are done in an abstract, but VERY colorful and organic style. I would consider the method to be "cold" glass.
I wanted to create some attractive, colorful, stained glass painted votive holders for candles, so that when a candle is lit inside them, the flame would create beautiful plays on color and light.
These would also look stunning just sitting on a windowsill without a candle and with the sun's rays shining through all the colors. As you can see from the photos here, they cast gorgeous colorful shadows, when the sunlight shines through them!
They measure approx. approx. 4.5"Hx5"W each.
I show several photos here from differing angles, since they look quite different depending on which angle you view them from.
The colors have a beautiful translucency or iridescence to them. I achieve this look by mixing 2 or more colors in each section. Some of the colors I used are: Amethyst, lime green, yellow, turquoise, blue, magenta royale, ruby red,, and white. I use a toothpick to spread and blend the colors together, making sure that they go all the way to the edges of the black outlines.
These are functional pieces of art and can be used as candle votives, or even to just store small items in on a coffee table or alone as stunning centerpieces.
The technique I use to create these is this:
First, I lay down the black "liquid leading" outlines. Then after those are dry (overnight), I apply the colors to each individual section, meticulously with a toothpick(!), using it to blend and spread the colors all the way to the edges of the black outlines, making sure to pop any bubbles that occur along the way. Then, when I am satisfied with all the color it is left to "cure" or dry for about a week.
