Decorating Idea - Eggs on Black Gallery Wrapped Canvas - Red Painted Edge

Media:  Acrylic Painted - Heavily Textured on Canvas
Dimensions:  12" x 12" x 1.5"
Date of Work:  August, 2005

"I was working with paint that suddenly had such a shape in it that I began to see of all things, eggs! 'Well heck', I thought, 'Andy Warhol worked with odd kitchen items, even cans of soup. So what would be a problem with creating the eggs I had seen in my minds eye?'

"And so it began, my humorous interpretation complete with texture that is so life like I shocked even myself. These are meant to be fun. Some cooks would even hang them in the kitchen. Then again I can see them in other areas as well. Use your imagination! They are an expression a giddy time in the creative process and plenty of smiles."

"I did the eggs on gallery wrapped canvas 12" x 12" x 1.5" thick, the background is painted black and the sides are red.  The texture used is my secret recipe, I create it myself for mixed media paintings which have a lot of serious texture in them.  The entire piece is painted with acrylic paint and sealed with matte finish varnish for protection."

"What are my favorite eggs, actually?  Sunny side up eggs are tasty but my family really enjoys it when I make them scrambled with soft Brie cheese in them.  The trick is to cook them slowly so as to keep them soft over medium heat.  The cheese is added to taste and not enough to over power the eggs.  Farm fresh eggs or organic eggs are the best for this.  I do not add any extra milk or water, just the cheese and some fresh ground black pepper on top just before serving.  Occasionally because we are in the Southwest, some family members I cook for will put some Picante' sauce on them.  Either way, they are good with a toasted whole wheat English muffin on the side."

"In the case of my Sunny Side Up eggs, I put them in the pan gently, and then baste them with margarine or low fat, heart healthy substitutes.  They are best not over cooked this way and not basted so long as to take the color out of the yellow part.  Just before serving grind some fresh black pepper and serve.  My wife says she's spoiled rotten with my cooking and that is not a pun on her part.  She's eager to try my new dishes I cook.  Both kinds of eggs are special to me as I fix them for my family on the weekends, a time when we can reflect about the past week and really enjoy each other."
