This mixed media assemblage depicts Isis the Egyptian Goddess of Immortality as icon. Her significance extends far beyond the Ancient Egyptian pantheon and is considered an important and near universal archetype. She was worshipped in Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Germany. Her myth is probably derived from older legends of a great mother Goddess. In the Egyptian story, when her beloved Osiris was killed and his body scattered in pieces, she went in search of them, finding each and reassembling them. The scraped surface is meant to evoke the temple walls of hieroglyphics. The disassembled and carefully reconstructed process which forms the mosaic reflects the dismemberment and magical reassemblage of Osiris as the result of her healing power.

This is my most extensive work in the mosaic style. The original painting was created with oil paint, encaustic technique, vintage paper, and ink drawing on canvas. The painting was then cut into tiles, numbered, mapped out and reassembled. The final layers are applied using encaustic technique. The painting is affixed to a hand constructed frame/support made of weathered pine wood.
