The name "Spring Fancy" came from the phrase "In the spring a young man's fancy turns to love". The bucks are in the foreground eyeing the cows in the meadow. They are still in velvet so it will be months before the actual mating season. There are large herds of elk in the Cascades, Olympic, and Blue Mountains of Washinfton state. Quite often they are visible as you travel across the passes and on mountain roads. This delights hunters however the only way I could hunt this magnificent animal is with a camera.
