The family was sitting around on a lazy afternoon, when I glanced to my right and witnessed this moment between my son-in-law and his 3 month-old daughter. I had to grab my camera.

The expression on the man's face and his eye contact with the baby make this shot particularly touching and symbolic of the wonder of young fatherhood. I also like the lighting, all natural California light coming in through the windows.

This photo was made with a 2.2 MP Kodak DX3600 digital camera and desaturated to obtain a black-and-white image. It did not deliver the image quality and depth of field I would have liked, so I did some Photoshop work on the background to eliminate distracting elements.
