Muriel Areno

Artist's Profile

I was born and raised in France, an only child, in a big old house full of books. I have been drawing and painting since I was able to hold a pencil, and became interested in photography at the age of 7.

After a brief stint at art school, I moved to England, married and had children, producing art on and off. I then moved to the United States and received a BFA degree at UNLV (Drawing & Painting emphasis), graduating with high distinction. I participated in juried group shows and received several awards. I was given a well-received one-woman show at Clark County Community College (now CCSN) in 1984.

Since I needed to make a living, I spent the next 20 years as a graphic designer and art director. I have recently returned to the fine arts where I find a more personal form of self-expression. A lot of the pieces in my galleries are older, but they are representative of my best work.

My recent work includes photography, painting and drawing. Many pieces were prompted by EBSQ Exhibits. Since 2012, I have had to deal with a hereditary retina condition that has caused me to rethink the way I work on a regular basis. I also keep and art journal and experiment with various ways of making art, but I will not give up.

I live in the Southern Nevada desert with my husband; we make frequent trips to Las Vegas and Southern California to visit our three daughters and six lovely grandchildren.

Most of the works in my portfolio are for sale; please contact me for prices and reproduction print availability.
