I draw the inspiration for my recent work from the familiar Western lanscape
This plein-air painting was made during the second annual Art in the Park event in my Nevada hometown. I made a point of painting it quickly to avoid too many light changes as the day wore on. It was painted between 11 am and 2 pm on a beautiful October day. I decided on this composition because of the different kinds of trees and the interesting reflections in the water.
A lot of the paint strokes are quick and gestural, and I tend to emphasize the brightness of the colors I see. This way, I aim to enliven the landscape and keep it from looking static.
