The three dimensional texture on this mixed media collage can only be appreciated when viewing the piece in person. Heavy, fiberous papers, fibers and cloth literally come up off of the surface of the piece. Highlights of varigated red gold leaf and walnut ink stains coupled with layer-after-layer of depth and pattern make this original one-of-a-kind piece seem like a true glimpse into ancient China. The piece is named after the following Chinese poem:
Seeing a Friend Off
Green mountains range beyond the northen wall.
White water rushes round the eastern town.
Right here is where, alone and restless, he
Begins a journey of a thousand miles.
While travelers' intents are fleeting clouds,
A friend's affection is a setting sun.
He waves good-bye, and as he goes from here,
His dappled horse lets out a lonely neigh.
