Art is my expression of my view of the world. I like to portray the beauty of nature as I experience it around me. My imagination becomes a part of my reality, therefore my style reflects me. Colors are vivid and subjects are large. This makes it easy for me to fill large canvases. Paint is applied thickly and often loosely. I have fun painting and I believe my paintings that work, show how much fun I had painting that day.
I often paint a la prima (in one setting). If it is going to work I know in the first couple of hours. If I have to labor over it I lose the freshness and I lose interest in the painting. So then I will wipe it clean or let it dry and start over on that canvas at a later date.
When I began oil painting, Talver Germany at Folsom Lake College was instrumental in encouraging me to maintain my bold and colorful style.
The process is an important to me as the product. I want to enjoy what I am doing and I want to enjoy the finished product. I am most successful when I paint loosely with thought and determination. After I sketch in my subject, I often turn to the palette knife to create the impasto effect I love to produce.
I want my piece to allow the viewer to look and fill in the dots with his/her own imagination. Those are paintings I enjoy the most, and I believe that is what makes them appealing to others
Art is an adventure where there is always more to learn and experience. I hope to continue on this path of creating and growing as long as I live.
