In 1998, the captain and small crew of the SV Fantome were lost at sea in the Carribbean. In a valiant attempt to save the ship, they were overtaken by Hurricane Mitch. This large painting, done in an impressionist style is my effort to interpret this modern day tragedy in a classical style. This is an original work. I used my photos of a similar sailing ship as reference. My signed certificate of authenticity will accompany this painting. MORE THOUGHTS: I recently sailed on it's sister ship and saw how its crew honored the memory of the Fantome every time they raised the sails.
