Media:  Acrylics on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Dimensions:  36" High x 24" Wide
Date of Work:  2006

Deep red pigment, copper metalic paint, and interesting surface detail create an uncrusted, aged appearance in this painting. Measuring 36" x 24", it is painted on a gallery wrapped canvas. ARTIST'S STATEMENT: As an antique collector, I have always been interested in objects discovered at archeology digs. In this painting I wanted to paint an amulet or shield which looked as though it had been buried for centuries. I started with a heavy coat of acrylic metalic paint and then pressed pieces of hardware and chain into the paint to create detail. I then used a brush to add different shades of red and to emphasize the detail. My last step was to add many layers of glazes to make the painting glow, as though it had ancient mystical power.
