Builder of Walls (Older Portrait)

Media:  Pastel, color pencil
Dimensions:  20"x24" on paper
Date of Work:  May 2003

This is part of my "Family Series" and deals with walking away from long battles and celebrating life. When I was a young man my hair was long (Soldier Portrait). As I have aged my hair has shortened (Builder of Walls Portrait).

The Builder of Walls

Sweet sound, you are a tender song, sweet melodie. Split from the same womb are we. Here we stand at the end of your wall or is it the start? You who is I and I whom is you says the leopard on the wall, she could care less. I have built machines of destruction in your honor to destroy this wall but have thought rather to paint and create would be much better, when a mighty seed, named John, showed me the light of limitless creation, I happened to be looking for it anyhow and together we made the special plants and the special animals. Here is where the division stops, the you inside me. Our skies shall unite and I cast off my weapons, To run free so to love and let live.
