This is a small piece I made several years ago. It's constructed of 1/2 poplar wood and embellished with shaped wood moldings, modeling paste and acrylic paint. The inside is lined in a matching blue suede board. The title gets its name from the Howlite stone donuts attached to each side. Howlite is an opaque white stone with blue-grey veining.
This piece is done in a rough somewhat primitive manner with a very definite texture. I've been building mixed-media boxes for over 10 years now and they vary in design. Most of the pieces I make are one-of-a-kind but there are a few that I'm able to repeat. Although I may make more than one with the same basic design they all are uniquely made and no two are ever exactly alike.
