Media:  fine silver, 18k gold, rubies, star sapphires
Dimensions:  5" x 3.5"
Date of Work:  Oct 2005

This piece was a commissioned work for a fantasy publishing compan;.each of their works of fiction are based on a mythical object. The Guardian Amulet, allegedly created by Druid clerics, is featured in their newest publication.

The piece is literally forged (no fancy modern metalsmithing techniques or casting here!) from approximately 7 oz of fine silver -- derived from recycled silver bullion.

The rubies and star sapphire's are set through openings in the face of the amulet with forged prongs that form straps on the back of the stones.

18k gold granulation and engraved Druidic characters (random selections from the Oogham alphabet) decorate the surface.

This piece was an actual physical feat -- I have never forged anything this large/thick before. It was a great learning experience and the best part is that I finally have the feeling back in my shoulder. hehehe.
