This piece will live outside the computer as a Giclee on Hahnemule, as well as a backlit film print for lightbox display.
What an incredible inspiration Dawn's stained glass is. I only hope that my Persephone does proper justice. This work is an homage to Dawn's body of work as a whole.
Inspired by her otherwordly style and precision, I attempted to channel something with a feeling of Mucha or Klimt, no easy feat considering my mind runs more along the lines of Heironymous Bosch.
The portrait was painted digitally in Painter8 from a graphite sketch, then brought into Photoshop where the construction of the window began. The composition issues that came up were incredible, restraining myself from softening heavy lines meant to mimic lead was quite an exersize and indeed a learning experience.
A bit about Persephone herself~
Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She was the goddess of springtime and, after her abduction by Hades she became his wife and Queen of the underworld for six months of each year. The mint and pomegranate is sacred to her.
Persephone raised Aphrodite's child Adonis. She was also known as Kore, "the Maiden". She symbolized the sprouting seeds of springtime.
Thank you Dawn for sharing your excellence, your vision and talent. It was an honor to rip you off.
