I have been traveling last year and I happened to visit Tretiakovskaya Gallery (one of the hugest art museums in the world, kind of like Louvre in Paris) that is located in Russia Moscow and I saw this famious early Roman statue, my memory fails, but it was called something like "satyr taking the shoe off the nymth's foot", I loved the piece, but undortunately Russian authorities are strick and I wasnt allowed to take the photo of the statue, so I just sketch it for a minute or two and I decided to create something that would complete the scene: the ruins of the temple, the nymth carying the jar that she just filled up with water and a satyr, begging her to linger just a little longer... The painting is not very close to the way the original statue looked, I just adjusted it to the way I thought would be more relaxing :) This piece is very nostalgic of the Roman beautiful forms, Roman period was in my opinion one of the greatest in art history.
