I chose the male form for this painting for two reasons. First, the musculature of the male form was, to me, more expressive and powerful for this piece, and secondly, the figure is in a penitent pose, and using the male form was a more direct way of conveying the essence and vulnerability of the figure. There are no direct religious connotations to this piece, even though I use the word "penitent" to describe the figure. It is purely a representation of someone who feels the need confess something, whether that confession is to a lover, or to someone else. The pose does all the speaking in the piece. A powerful figure, in the most vulnerable and human of positions, asking for forgiveness.....love......peace......strength.
This painting is done on a 25x25 gallery wrap canvas, is strung and ready to hang.
Thanks for looking!
