With this piece I wanted to explore texture and light and convey depth and a sense of infinity. With such a large canvas I really wanted to go beyond the flat surface and pull the viewer into a deeper place. I painted the blank canvas with varying shades of dark violet and then used a texture paste and course ground pumice over the top of that which dries to a pale cream. The whole canvas was then painted again in varying levels of transluscency to allow some of the dark shadows below to surface whilst the cream areas of paste lightened the surface paint. Quite a lengthy process but a voyage of discovery for me as this was the first piece that I really explored rasing the surface. The canvas is 40" x 40".
