This is an entry for the unfinished works show! I started it in May 2006 so it's been leaning against the studio wall for quite a while. It's done in watercolour on arches cp 140 lb paper, approximately 16" x 20".
Before starting the flowers, many layers of paint were poured onto the paper which already had a dried layer of spritzed and sprayed masking fluid. After the poured layers are dry, the dogwood flowers were then lightly drawn on to the paper. It's no use drawing them beforehand because with all the layers of paint being poured on, you quickly lose any pencil lines.
It's a lot of fun to do these poured paintings but after starting to paint in the flowers and the negative space around them, I lost a bit of interest in it. Now, every time I look at it, I see the one petal that looks like a big toe nail.
I may go back to it.
One day.
Maybe.
If I can forget (or fix) that toe nail petal!!
