Wildlife, Pet and People Portraitist

Sundee L. Zielger is a self taught artist, never having had the opportunity to experience formal art training. She works in the mediums of oil on canvas, colored pencil and/or pastels, acrylic on stone and pen and ink. Her favorite subjects are all of Mother Nature's flora and fauna.

Ms. Ziegler has recently returned from living in Germany. While there, she was a big hit with the equestrian and pet set known for her realistic equine and animal portraits. Up to this point in her career, she had never attempted painting humans, but she decided to try. She found that she could paint people as realistic as the animals she loves to paint. So, she began to take on new commissions and branched out into portrait painting. As a newcomer to this particular subject, she was astonished to be contacted by many prestigous Europeans and their families for commissions to paint their portraits. Her work was received with glowing accolades and much enthusiasm. She has many works of art hanging in galleries, private collections and other venues all over the world. While in Europe, she won several awards and prizes for her paintings and drawings. She was also asked by businesses, who wanted to feature her work, to hang her paintings and drawings in banks, restuarants and shops. . She was and still is represented by a number of galleries on the continent.

Ms. Ziegler has been in hiatus while recovering from some very serious health problems from which she was not expected to live through, but she has beaten the odds and today she is now almost fully recovered. She has also been in transition moving back to the USA and getting settled. While not entirely ready to make Reno her forever home, she is once again busy working on the many new commissions she has received. She is keeping herself busy searching for a permanent home, donating her talents to many animal help organizations, keeping up with her two senior citizen Yorkshire Terriers and two regal felines, all the while getting used to being a parent again. She recently was awarded legal guardianship of her fifteen year old grandson who now resides with her. Ms. Ziegler also designs beautiful and fun cross stich patterns and will be opening her new on-line store featuring her designs plus supplies to fill all your cross stitching needs this fall.
