I have been a painter for more than 20 years. I characterize myself as a color artist more than an expert in any one form or style of painting. I love the manipulation of color and its effect on human beings. I am fascinated by impressionist images of the natural world and it is most often what I paint. Sometimes, that is expressed in kinetically vivid color palettes and, at other times, in soft calming pastels, as well as everything in between. I am inspired by the atmospheric mood of a scene and the color relationships that cause us to respond to a visual on a deeper level. It is my goal as an artist to create an image for the viewer to lose themselves in. To set a mood that resonates in the soul and evokes an emotional response.
I love a great many artists, but it is because of Van Gogh and a wonderful and encouraging Junior High art teacher, that I am an artist today. She introduced me to Van Gogh at the age of 13 and I have been painting ever since. I love the impressionists, especially Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Pissaro, Renoir and Degas. They were Masters of color, visual space, perception and created a revolutionary and quite unique period in art history.
I work in acrylic, watercolor, collage, pastel, 3D mixed media and have won awards for my ceramics. I am passionate about the creative process in all its forms.
I am self-taught and continuously study the methods and techniques of other artists. I do competitions and shows in the mid-west, as well as giving private lessons. I particularly love teaching children.
