A swarm of dragonflies in a flurry of color and movement

Dragonfly--Flighty, carefree. Dragonflies symbolize whirlwind, swiftness and activity.

I chose paint this insect because it portrayed my life at that time. I at times research the meaning of subjects prior to painting them, so the symbolic definition seemed to describe my busy life perfectly.

I paint for me. It's just a bonus that other people like my work.

The dragonfly is an important insect in Zuni legend, where they are shamanistic creatures with supernatural powers. In Japan, dragonflies symbolize victory in battle. Dragonflies are believed to bring luck, harmony, and serendipity. They are also symbols of immortality and regeneration. In India the dragonfly is a symbol of the magic of potential.

In keeping with the natural nature of the subject matter, materials used to create this piece was heavy duty organic rice paper, stetched on 1/2" bamboo bars, professional grade acrylic paints; mainly in primary colors, and strategic touches of gold.
