"I have been fascinated by realism and trompe l'oeil for most of my 35 year career
as an artist. Originally a graphic designer and illustrator, for the last 20 years I have
concentrated my creative energies on designing and painting trompe l'oeil on furniture and
home accessories and most recently on still life paintings on canvas and panels.
My tromp l'oeil work has been in many of the top art galleries and museum gift shops in the country,
as well as having been included in such catalogs as Levenger and Neiman Marcus. A hand-painted Christmas
tree ornament that I collaborated on is in the permanent collection of the White House.
In the last few years, I have also begun doing more traditional still life paintings,
in the sense that they are painted on panels and canvas rather than on furniture.
I especially enjoy rich textures, dramatic lighting and a hint of the surreal. These have allowd
me to depart from the restrictions of trompe l'oeil. Trompe l'oeil must be the actual size of the object
it represents to be convincing, and also must be of a certain view, on table tops you are usually looking
down on the objects. Canvas and panels enable me to paint what ever size and view I wish, and is very exciting.
Most recently I have become fascinated with painting vintage toy scenarios...some are straightforward and some
have a surreal quality. I have also started painting in much larger formats, which I am thoroughly enjoying."
