Media:  digital camera
Dimensions:  10 x 7 inches
Date of Work:  2007

This portrait is of my 12 year old son. The camera used was is a Samsung Digimax 300 digital camera.

The photo was taken originally as a part of my "Broken Camera Project." I received the camera through Freecycle, an online community for giving and receiving things that would otherwise be thrown away. The camera only shoots in purple, and the images are pixelated. It;s a challenge to make something beautiful when you are limited by the media. But I always like the idea of beauty where others see garbage.

I caught my son off guard. He hates having his photo taken. I think this caught how pensive and thoughtful he is.

The only changes made to this photo were desaturation, and cropping. The rest of the "effect" were created by the limitations of the camera.
