The childhood show created quite a challenge for me. My childhood was a double edged sword.

I was seriously ill through out most of my younger day. I basically grew up at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. So my early child hood memories are of pain.

However I also have the warm fuzzy memories that many of us children of the late 60's early 70's had: Franken-Berry cereal, chocolate milk, lady bugs, and peace signs, colour, and bright shiny bits. I wanted these two images of my childhood to be similar but very different.

The upper image is my darker life. Trying to show the way I felt like a bug under glass, pinned down, painful and isolated.

The lower image is my happy childhood filled with colour and sparkles, glitter and love. Even the frame is more decorative than the other one.

The image in both frames is one of only 2 pictures of me as a child. I can see both the happiness and the pain in myself in that photograph. I have chocolate milk but I know that it was a treat, not a normal thing I would have been given.

growing up with two such differing childhood experiences has I think helped to create the diversity of my work.
