Self-portraits are always interesting. Do I wan to show what I really look like? Do I want to show that I’m shiny on the inside? Do I want to portray a feeling or a time in my life? What would you do given the assignment?

I chose to show myself not as I am in reality, but as I am surrounded by many of things that influence why and what I paint. Someone told me it reminded them of a Frieda Khalo portrait, which I thought was very flattering, and may have been somewhere in my subconscious, because I have always admired her sense of self in self-portraits.

I have used all my favourite colours and things Liddle Kiddles, Blythe dolls, Big eyed pity kitties & pity puppies, Jack and Sally, TIKIS, the outrageous colour combinations of the 60’s and my own psycho little self, chasing down the dreams with a hockey mask and a little axe. I am made up of all of these things and more.

I hope you enjoy this small trip into the workings of my mind.
