Amid a lacework of grasses rest colorful fall Virginia Creeper leaves
One of the first tangle of grasses that I attempted. I'd done a tangle of branches before but it isn't the same. They're never the same. These leaves had such amazing variety of color and there they were laying on these gorgeous, slender grasses. Sometimes when I paint I feel I am carving out spaces, carving out the objects to bring them to life. It isn't just the paint that I use to actually paint the leaves or the grasses but the spaces between that really define them, bring them closer, push them further away. I still find things that surprise me when I look at this painting.
