Fall oak leaves resting on a rock are illuminated by the sun.
My photo omits some of the very subtle detail in that sun washed rock. Yes, it is very bright but not quite as much as the photo might lead you to believe. I was captivated by the sun filtering through this cluster of oak leaves that fell outside our office. The colors, the shadows, the contrasts, all of it just demanded that I paint them. One of the things I like about this painting is all the colors in the leaves. If you lifted up the cluster of leaves and turned them to a different light they all appeared to be pretty much the same brown but put them in the sunlight and let it work it's magic - wow!!
