Barbara Wallace began studying the figure at the age of 16 at the Art Students League of New York. She continued at Pratt Institute studying with Rudolph Baranik and received a BFA in painting. At the University of Pennsylvania she was awarded an MFA in sculpture and was the assistant of Maurice Lowe. The artist is very interested in utilizing accessible, everyday materials and often sculpts with recycled materials. The imagery takes its inspiration from historical, mythological, and archetypal references. The drawings have a fresh calligraphic quality creating a 3-D experience with strokes of the fewest lines .
