This piece entitled "In Utero" embodies my emotions throughout my pregnancy. As that little life who would eventually become my son grew inside of me, I grew on the outside as well (figuratively and literally....) Although I knew things, they all seemed so new...like a baby in the womb encountering itself for the first time without realizing it.
Undiluted oil paint was squeezed onto the canvas and worked together with a palette knife almost like icing on a cake. Knife stokes and "taps" and waiting for just the right consistency to scrape and dab more paint on top of what was there created this fluid image. She emerged from the depths...the process was as much a part of the overall painting as the image itself. The whole thing was rather cathartic....
