NOTE FROM THE ARTIST: The sultry object of my painting is a modern day priestess of Nepthys. While this practitioner may not fit the visual profile of a follower of the old ways, she is fascinated nonetheless by the practices of ancient Egyptians. She has found ways to incorporate this distinct religion quite seamlessly into her modern life. Whether the religion of the ancient Egyptians is now considered New Age, trendy, or kitsch, it does not stop the wave of people that have become Nepthys' dedicated followers.

ABOUTR THE PIECE: Written on her amulet are the Egyptian Hieroglyphs for the the Goddess Nepthys and the symbols of the Underworld. Nepthys is the Egyptian Goddess of Twilight believed to escort departed souls to the Underworld. She listens to the dark, as well as the bright, and is the creator of dreams. Don't let her serious presence fool you. She wears the symbols of life and beauty on her flesh. Her magick is powerful and awe-inspiring.
