My direction has changed in the last few months from one of realistic images to that of original surrealistic and abstract designs. I am interested in portraying the abstract patterns that are created by light, reflections and texture and the juxtaposition of several related ideas within the same painting.
I was recently awarded the H.K. Holbein Award for Innovative use of Watercolour at the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour Annual Juried Exhibition Open Water 2004 for my painting "Surfacing" which is shown at left.
This painting represents to me, the dream state in which you are about to waken, allowing several different ideas to intermingle and rise to the surface as you become fully awake.
