Media:  Acrylic Painting on Masonite - Framed in wood & resin
Dimensions:  29"x17" x2"thick
Date of Work:  2008

it combines both 2-dimensional painted elements as well as 3-dimensional sculptural/molding elements! Not only is it a stunning painting - it also has an ORIGINAL "Strangeling Frame"! The frame was handcrafted and hand-cast by myself & Matty - in fact the frame itself contains some of my 3-d wide eyed beauties! It is way too cool! The painting is called "Shell Collector" and I'm so proud of her! A gorgeous dark haired mermaid on a stormy sea - she is clutching some beautiful sea shells. Her eyes are the colour of the sea. She is on a gothic-style peaked wood panel (masonite) with a stunning carved wood and cast resin frame. The framing/panel almost looks like something you'd see in a Renaissance or Medieval art museum - much like an old altar piece. The frame is the first "Strangeling Frame" we've made - it is actually part of the panel itself -combining the 3-dimensional characters along with the painting on the panel. At the top of the frame is a magnificent ornate casting featuring a bust of one of my Strangeling girls, and there are two other 3-d characters at the bottom corners of the frame - two wide eyed beauties each clutching a their own seashells, in theme with the rest of the painting. Other details enhance the framing, which is all a hand-painted (by me!) copper and aged/antiqued patina, to give it an old, sea-corroded feel. The painting is quite large - I've even posted a photo of myself standing with it in the auction (see the link below) to show size. It is about 29" high and 17" wide, and the ornamentation on the frame is probably about an inch or two thick. It is READY TO HANG! I am so happy I am able to start creating works like these, and by collaborating with my husband and his workshop, I truly have made my dream a reality, especially now that we are branching into TRULY original frames! It really has to be seen in person to appreciate it! Yes it the "frame" (attached to the single panel to form the borders of the individual triptych surface panels is included!). It is READY TO HANG and is really stunning, finished with a glossy varnish.
