St. Lucy (Lucia)...
A virgin and martyr of Syracuse in Sicily, whose feast is celebrated by Latins and Greeks alike and associated with the Winter Solstice and the begining of the Christian Christmas Holidays.
Lucia was believed to be born of rich, noble parents about the year 280. Her father's early death left her dependent upon her mother, Eutychia.
Like so many of the early martyrs, Lucy, of Roman Greek desent, had hands full of sweet breads with a halo of candles on her head to distribute a great part of her riches among the poor.
Many legends surround this Saint in many countries. I've place the maiden in a tree with a dog, jack russel, a cat, and a bird. The tree has many burning candles lighting the curling, leaf-less branches of her tree.
