First Ladies 11/07/05 Dolly, Julia, Rosalynn, Jacqueline, Nancy, Lady Bird, Bess, Anna, Mamie, Lou, Martha, Barbara, Laura, and the list goes on. What do all of these names have in common? All of these names belonged to First Ladies of the United States. “First Lady” is an odd name when you think about it. As I was listening to an audio book-on-tape about some of the first ladies, I was inspired to paint this work. Particularly, I was thinking of some of the very young First Ladies of many days past, such as Julia Gardiner Tyler, who was young enough to be President Tyler’s daughter. Each of these three portraits were just made up out of my imagination and are not the likeness of any one First Lady. This original painting was created using artist-grade materials: watercolor paints on acid-free archival watercolor paper. Thanks for taking the time to look!
