My name is Karen Smith. Art has always come naturally to me. I began drawing at a very early age. Throughout my life I have explored many mediums including colored pensils, pastels, oils, acrylics, watercolors, and clay. It wasn't until recently that I became most interested in painting. I am a self taught painter. When I want to learn a new technique or style I will get a book and teach myself. I try not to limit myself to one style, but I am most fond of abstract, and impressionist.
I was born, and still live in Michigan. My artistic abilities became evident to me when I was in Elemantry school. From second grade up to sixth I won the Young Authors Award every year for my stories and illustrations. My teachers would ask me to make enlarged pictures for the bullitin boards, and many of my classmates would request drawings.
I had actually given up drawing for quite a while after my son was born because I was always so busy. Now that he's older, and after much persuasion from my family and friends I finally set aside some time to draw and paint. I started with a few oil paintings, then acrylics. I really enjoy the the quick drying time of acrylics but prefer the workability of oils.
My artwork is in private collections all accross the US.
