This vessel for containing liquid is a hand built piece fashioned of white stoneware clay. It is actually formed beginning with two pinch pots welded together. The "arms" were rolled out as coils and before attaching to the body of the pot, the center of each coil was opened so that liquid could eventually pass through. The piece was glazed before firing with a dark cobalt glaze.
The finished vessel is definitely organic in nature and in addition to being functional, unquestionably has a sculptural quality which in it's simplicity exhibits a kind of oriental/spiritual serenity. It is no accident that this piece relates in concept to earth, water, and those who inhabit it.
My eldest daughter told me that it reminded her of the manner in which people in some cultures bow to one another in a gesture of respect, so I have called it, "Reverence".
