This sophisticated yet whimsical piece is inspired by the depictions of the ancient Olympics on Greek pottery circa 550 BC. This piece was inspired by an amphora from around 525 BC that depicted the stadium race. Lately, I have also become intrigued by Piccasso's interpretation of the human form and in this piece I have combined my love for ancient art with my passion for the various interpretations of the modern abstract figure. I have taken liberty with the runners forms so that the first impression is that of the ancient look but the more you look at it the more you see the forms deconstruct and intertwine and become almost indistinguishable taking on an abstract appearance. An ancient theme with a deliciously modern twist!
