I never expected my artwork to become such a predominant focus in my life. I put away my art supplies while I was busy having three children and have recently taken it up again-even if it is only for an hour or two a day. It has gone from part time fun, to an absolute necessity in my hectic life. Creating art gives me a feeling of being grounded amidst the chaos of raising a family.
I have again taken up with an old flame-black and white photography. I love the depth and richness of lights and shadows and I try to keep a camera ready at all times for when I unexpectedly find something with really great contrast.
My current painting work is all over the place. I paint and create what strikes me at the moment, and I am also dabbling in other mediums, letting my mind and my creativity wander. I am primarily a realist and I paint quite a bit of photorealism. I enjoy the challenge and discipline of recreating the details exactly as they appear in life or from a photograph. It can, however be somewhat draining, in that it is very rigid. I try to find a balance between the structure of photorealism and the carefree nature of other styles. It can be difficult at times for me to just "let go" and put down whatever comes to mind, but I feel that it is important to keep myself refreshed.
I am self taught, or more "self teaching" as my artwork grows with each new piece. I hope you enjoy viewing or owning my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.
