I am freelance artist currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. I specialize in whimsical surrealism, fantasy, Artoon, and general illustration. I'm like most other human beings in that I started drawing as a child. My mother is an extremely creative person and a talented oil painter, so there was always plenty of encouragement. My earliest influences in art were cartoons, comics, puppetry arts and storybook illustration. While I adored the cutesy imagery contained in 80's kid's cartoons, and fantasy storybooks, I also had a simultaneous infatuation with something of the extreme opposite persuasion: Horror films and gore flicks. In fact, I got into a great deal of trouble with one of my teachers over a rather graphic depiction of Jeff Goldblum as THE FLY. I was always drawing as a child, but there was always something a little off about my artwork. I'd draw an adorable little puppy dog... with razor sharp fangs... Or a cuddly little bunny... Carrying an axe for no apparent reason... A zebra running over rainbow-colored hills... Being chased by a werewolf... and then there was that whole Johnny Appleseed phase... It was almost as if my imagination never saw a difference between cute and evil. Needless to say, my parents were called into school for conferences on more than one occasion thanks to my art.
I was a weird kid and grew into an even weirder adult. I'm still in love with cartoons, and comics. I still adore puppets and puppet-making and I still enjoy a good horror movie. Most of all, I still have that childhood quirk that worried my teachers and I've chosen to use it instead of abandon it. I like to make art that entertains me, and I've been lucky enough that it happens to entertain other people as well. Sometimes my art is fun and silly, sometimes it is cute and scary and sometimes it just IS. When I create, I still feel like that six-year-old little girl drawing Jeff Goldblum and that's always nice.
Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy my collection.
