"Layers" of Meaning: Choose your meaning: #1) The cultural struggle over the meaning of Christmas is examined in this piece. By creating a homemade cake as a bridge between the delights of childhood and the cultural/religious aspects of the holiday (each child is a sort of support for this bridge, and an animator of meaning)...thus cultural polemics are sidestepped in favor of subtlety, sensuousness, innocence...and the deconstruction of text and its internalization is accomplished through ingestion of the text itself! Meaning #2) Cake made in a pan, homemade or package, either way when it is served still warm with an ice cold glass of milk, man, it kicks butt! This one was made this Christmas as a Happy Birthday cake for Jesus. Been eating these since childhood, and now the next generation is taking over..both the decoration and the sneaking fingerfuls of frosting! Steps: 1) Buy your favorite cake mix, 2) Buy your favorite frosting, 3) Heat oven, grease and flour pan, 4) prepare cake mix according to directions and bake, 5) frost and decorate according to the textual and symbolic need, when done baking...6) eat! and eat a second piece!
