Brutality

January 2009

We are engaged in what is refered to as a "global" economy.

How can we possibly compete on an even field? In some societies a wage of $1 per day is the norm. In America today the average worker makes about $38,000 per year which is about $146 gross per work day.

A focus on profits over people is forcing the world into a Hobson's choice. Profit based economies are being forced on societies who can least afford them.

Profit based food production leads to brutality.

Only the wealthy can afford food and proper nutrition and corporations control the quality and quantity.

The quality is in freefall due to the profit focus and, even in wealthy societies, our health suffers from the chemicals and additives used to increase the profits. The quantity is opulent in some countries and meager in others.

I created a backdrop of dollars on canvas paper with acrylic paint and gel medium. The digital photo is the juxtaposition of the basic need and human right to food and the profit based corporate food network.
