Media:  Mixed Media Mosaic
Dimensions:  10" x 10"
Date of Work:  2007

This mirror was made as a tribute to John Steinbeck. I was never much for reading classic literature, as I am mainly a Sci-Fi kind of girl. However, I was required to read the "Grapes of Wrath" as a high school student. At my steady job, we have a book exchange library where we bring in our novels and take ones we haven't read. One of the selections was "Travels With Charley." I picked it up and enjoyed the heck out of it.

I looked into Mr. Steinbeck's life and found all kinds of interesting things: He loved the water and was often out with his friend studying marine life. He loved his poodle Charley.

This mirror was done on a wood base which I covered with a map of the United States. Over the map, I applied tempered glass, minature doll house books of Steinbecks work, a ship, a turtle, a flag, grapes and poodles. I grouted in a light blue and applied highlights of turquoise blue. The edges are painted in the turquoise blue.

The back is covered in felt with hanging hardware and wire attached.

This piece is currently available in my Etsy Store. You can go there by using the link above - just below my name.

Price $125
