I often draw items that I intend to create mosaics of - just to get an idea of the color schemes and placement. Then I might spend about a year looking for the "right" color tile, glass, etc... I am currently thinking of working with smalti since the palette is so broad and might enable me to work with the more subtle nuances for shading, etc....

In any case, early this year I started fooling around with more drawings and this is just one of a few. I tend to draw abstract designs much like this one. I think they look very 1960ish. I made this design while my 5 year old nephew was here and he kept having me draw a similar design for him to color. He asked me to draw it at least three times (and of course I did). He wanted me to draw him the Star - so in a way he picked this name.
