Media:  Mosaic glass and ceramic
Dimensions:  22" sq approx.
Date of Work:  2005

Back in the 1980's I purchased a Time Life series of books on myths and legends. I have always enjoyed reading about such things. In the Time Life series there is a section narrating the Arthurian legend of the Holy Grail quest. In the legend, Sir Gawain nears attainment of the Grail, he even glimpses it in the Grail Castle, but is denied the Grail due to his sins.

In this mosaic, Sir Gawain and his horse are kneeling outside the Grail Castle. The Grail can be seen shining from one of the windows.

The green band just inside the frame is made with polished Aventurine stones. The picture portion of the mosiac is made with handpainted heatset ceramic tile, broken porcelain and crockery, stained glass, mirror glass, dicroic glass and glass stones. The surface used is a recycled cabinet door, purchased from Habitat for Humanity's "Re-Store" shop.
