I was born in Louisiana but lived most of my life in Houston, Texas (25 years), moving to Sacramento, CA in 2001. I started doing mosaics in my early teens but only became seriously involved in using this medium since year 2000. I've tried metal casting/jewelry making and glass fusing, experience gained from taking art classes at the American River College, as well as basic ceramics, which I would love to explore further. I am currently taking classes to further my knowledge of asemblage at the Sacramento City College. I have worked with concrete sculpture using techniques from Sherri Warner-Hunter's books and Darjit sculpting compounds. Although not my preferred medium, I also handpaint tiles - using a heat set paint - to incorporate in my mosaics.
I am a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) and the owner of the Mosaic_California Yahoo group.
Much of my inspiration comes from my Catholic faith, incorporating Christian symbols into what I make but I also enjoy creating busy abstract designs. I admire artists such as Kandinsky and Klimt. Plus - I like shiney things.
I teach mosaic classes in the Sacramento area through the City of Sacramento's community centers and the Michaels stores.
I am available for commissions and you may email me or contact me at 916-802-5238.
