When models move...

Media:  charcoal on toned paper
Dimensions:  9x12

This piece practiucally drew itself. I guess I was "inspired". The model had such cool stance that I had to capture it fast! After I finished it, I wanted to call it some kind of a yuppy name but actually he was just a nice model dude named Richard. Hey, but that "stance".. it's actually like a Richard Geere stance isn't it?

I love working in charcoals because I feel they bring me close to the Old Masters when they managed to capture delicate studies like a cameras would. It's also quite romantic that every little scratch of charcoal on the toned paper adds substance to the art work and when blending the values is basically what turns it into flesh. But I always save the big punch for last - the white highlight. The white makes the subject emerge into a world most familiar to us.
