I am quite involved in local art functions in my area, so for this year's art center fundraising, I painted the two presidential candidates for their 5x5 show.

I enjoyed painting this portrait of Senator Barack Obama because I think his eyes speak of the infinite potentials he sees in Americans. They mirror the big picture before him that our country has so much untapped resources of abilities so we can all become better citizens of our very rich country and at the same time we may develop greater appreciation for what we already have and not live excessive lifestyles, etc., and focus more of our efforts on nurturing our environment and the earth.

I am so pleased to have captured his warm smile because it completes the picture. His smile is a confirmation of his thoughts, he is saying to himself, "YES, WE CAN! And I will put forth my very best so that you may see what I see (when I look at you), and you may rekindle your American pride by being a positive force in the world."

I painted stars along the edges of the gallery canvas to acknowledge both candidates for their unwavering love for America and because they are both outstanding men - they are both stars in my book!
