The inspiration for this piece came from my daughter, who informed me recently that she would like to live in a subdivision. She has grown up out in the country without neighbors closing in on every side. I grew up among acres of Levit homes - there were 2 versions of the house, the two story or ranch style. While playing around the neighborhood, I would often try to imagine a way out of the "blissfull" social micro-cosmos that my block consisted of. I have always considered my daughter lucky to have several acres of lawn, a creek, a forest, mountains, wildflowers etc. in her own "yard." Now I wonder if maybe she's missing out on something. This painting recalls twilight on the block, those last few minutes of playing with the other kids before mom called you in for the night.
