This is an experimental piece in which I started out just wanting to use a smudged piece of Crescent board for something besides laying around. I gessoed it and gave it a local color wash with oil paints, then went over the whole thing with chalk pastels.
The subject is a bloodroot flower I found on Pine Mountain, the kind of thing that will get run over and destroyed by four-wheelers, so I thought the expressive, dark quality suited the subject.
